The Barreau du Québec in Particular

The Barreau du Québec's main mission is to protect the public in dealing with a lawyer: The Barreau ensures the competence of the people who want to become lawyers or who already are. Membership in the Barreau du Québec is required in order for anyone to provide the services of a lawyer.

We can help you if you have any doubts about a lawyer's conduct or if you want to check whether any complaints have previously been filed against a lawyer, for example; however, we are unable to respond to legal questions: It is up to our members to do so, on an individual basis

The Barreau du Québec is the professional order that oversees the 26,000 or so lawyers in Québec. In order to fulfill its mission of protecting the public, the Barreau maximizes the bonds of trust between lawyers, the public and the government. To do so, the Barreau monitors the practice of the profession, promotes the rule of law (whereby everyone is equal before the law), enhances the status of the profession and supports its members in practising law.
